PARTNER: Partnering with Adolescents to Ready The Newest Engaged Researcher

In close collaboration with Livingston Teen Health Clinic in the Central Valley and Asian Health Services in Chinatown, Oakland, the California Adolescent Health Collaborative organized two advisory boards comprised of adolescent patients, their family members, providers, professional researchers, and other stakeholders to develop capacity for and engagement in patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR)/clinical effectiveness research (CER). Through Project PARTNER, an advisory board was created at two locations, one low-income urban neighborhood and one low-income rural community. As members of the advisory boards, adolescent patients were engaged and trained as co-researchers, and the culmination of the project included the identification of community PCOR/CER research priorities at each location and cross-site collaboration.

  • Develop capacity amongst adolescent and adult advisory board members to develop PCOR/CER and investigate PCOR/CER research questions.

  • Facilitate community identification and prioritization of health issues.

  • Develop, pilot, and disseminate a developmentally-appropriate curriculum for training adolescents in PCOR/CER
