Minor Consent and Confidentiality Trainings in Merced and Visalia

These workshops will review practice standards and guidelines, policy issues, and other information on minor consent/confidentiality, including an overview of FERPA and HIPAA. Case scenarios for a variety of youth-serving settings will be presented for discussion and questions.

Participants will receive the Adolescent Health Working Group’s Understanding Confidentiality & Minor Consent in California: An Adolescent Provider Toolkit.

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify situations in which an adolescent has the right to consent and confidentiality.
  • Explain consent and confidentiality to a minor and their family.
  • Better understand rules and laws that apply to record and information sharing between providers and organizations.

About the Trainer:

Rebecca Gudeman is a senior attorney with the National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) specializing in adolescent health care. She directs NCYL’s adolescent reproductive health project and oversees their website, www.teenhealthrights.org.   Rebecca is author of numerous articles and papers on consent and confidentiality law and trains nationally on these issues.
