Promoting Healthy Transitions: Tweens, Teens and Young Adults

Welcome to the 2010 Adolescent Health Conference, “Promoting Healthy Transitions: Tweens, Teens and Young Adults”. This conference is coordinated by the California Adolescent Health Collaborative and its conference partner, the University of California San Francisco School of Nursing. The Conference will give you opportunities to challenge your thinking, collaborate with your colleagues, and join in creative problem solving as you explore youth transitions.

This is a conference for doctors, nurses, program staff, health educators, social workers, therapists and health and youth advocates.

A Youth Track for youth peer educators, coordinated by James Morehouse, Project of El Cerrito High School, is a special part of the conference and will create unique youth to youth interaction and opportunities for youth to speak out on issues of importance.

The conference theme will be put into action through interactive plenary sessions, workshops, discussions, poster sessions and performances that highlight:

  • From Tween to Teen: Issues faced by our youngest teens
  • Growing Pains: Emotional transitions and forming relationships
  • In and Out of School: Social, cultural, environmental and economic issues
  • From Teen to Adulthood: Making connections
Featured conference sessions will explore:
  • The New Paradigm of Adolescent Sexuality
  • Youth Resiliency
  • Healthy Lifestyles
Featured speakers will include:
  • Amy Schalet, PhD, Assistant Professor, Sociology, University of Massachusetts, Amherst
  • Kristine Madsen, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, UCSF; research scientist, UC Berkeley Center for Weight and Health
Workshop Sessions will be offered on:
  • OMG! Plz RT: Reaching Youth via Social Media - Confidentiality, Ethics & Other Considerations
  • Confidentiality & Minor Consent Laws
  • Sharing Successes and Challenges to LGBT Youth Inclusion
  • Teens succeeding despite poverty, homelessness and disabled parents
  • Addressing Adolescent Relationship Abuse in the Clinical Setting
  • Teens Caught in the Crosshairs of Violence, Crisis, Depression and Suicide
