Welcome Letter: Youth Track Conference Committee

Dear Youth Track Participant,

We, the members of the 2008 Youth Conference Committee, would like to extend a warm welcome to you! We are youth from different peer education programs from around the Los Angeles and Long Beach Area and we thank you for being a part of this wonderful conference. We appreciate you all and know you are out there doing amazing work in California to make the state a better place for us, the youth. We thought you’d like a little insight into just what exactly you can expect from the Youth Track of the conference.

Youth Conference Committee Members:
We will be floating around during the conference (you can’t miss us in our neon colored shirts). We will be available all day to answer your questions, help you find your way, and to meet and greet each of you. Feel free to ask us about - what it’s like being on the conference committee, facts on the Thursday night event, or just to say hi and to meet someone new.

Workshops:
The Youth Track is bringing youth educators and service providers together to share and build resources. All of our workshops are open to youth and adults and we welcome adult participation as we will definitely be participating in the adult track workshops as well. Youth committee members will be available at each of the youth track workshops, and will be youth focused so please participate and make the most of our expert presenters and awesome programs in California. We look forward to all the great workshops and sharing knowledge and ideas with each other throughout the conference.

Youth Theatre Presentation:
Check out the Youth Theatre Performance on Thursday, 4:45 to 5:30. The youth theatre troupe is from CHOICES, who perform all over Los Angeles and at workshops throughout the country. They will be highlighting a portion of their program performing skits that educate teens on various health topics.

Thursday Night Event!
There will be a walking tour to Little Tokyo sponsored by the youth committee following the first day of the conference (download flier) after the theatre presentation. This event will feature a walk to Little Tokyo, where we can spend down time after the conference. Bring some cash because there will be opportunities to taste different foods, shopping, grab a frozen yogurt and time to kick back. We designed this as a networking opportunity for youth participants– in the hopes that you all would hang out and share ideas. We want to make friends and have a good time, but more importantly – we want to make allies from across the state. The walking tour will start at 6:15 pm on Thursday and run until about 9:00 pm. Stay as long as you like and have fun and relax.

This conference is for you and we’re proud to be a part of it! Thank you again for coming to Los Angeles and we hope you enjoy the Youth Track as much as we’ve enjoyed planning it!
