How to Close the LGBT Health Disparities Gap

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Americans of color are less likely to have health insurance, get timely care and needed medicine, or have a usual source of care, among other health issues, according to a new memo from the Center for American Progress that uses CHIS data. The memo’s author notes the general lack of data on LGBT health issues and lauds the invaluable role of CHIS in helping to fill the gap. “CHIS is one of the few comprehensive, ongoing state-level health surveys that regularly collects information on sexual orientation,” according to the memo.
